Job description

From data wrangling to implementing complex statistical models, data scientists at Precision Analytics wear many hats. While we require a strong foundation in a quantitative discipline, applied experience conducting health or life science-related data analysis is essential.

Essential qualifications

  • Graduate degree (MSc or PhD) in a quantitative field such as:
    • mathematics, statistics or biostatistics
    • bioinformatics or computational biology/chemistry
    • epidemiology
  • Ability to write robust code in at least one statistical programming language such as R (preferable), SAS, Stata, Python, MATLAB, etc.
  • Hands-on experience analyzing a variety of data sources
Candidates must also demonstrate:
  • Outstanding communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience collaborating with non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to accurately interpret statistical results and concepts
  • Initiative and ownership working both independently and in a team
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks under tight deadlines

Other relevant skills/experience

  • Familiarity with software version control and project management tools (e.g., Git, Github, Jira)
  • Experience creating visualizations, dashboards, or automated reports (e.g., ggplot2, R Markdown, plotly, Shiny)
  • Industry/non-academic experience or internships

Job description

Software developers at Precision Analytics work closely with our experienced data scientists which provides a unique opportunity for mutual learning. As a developer, you will not be limited to a small subset of basic development tasks; instead, you will play an integral role in all phases of the software development life cycle.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Designing and implementing new features and functionality based on client requirements
  • Writing front- and back-end code for interactive dashboards
  • Designing and implementing private APIs and client applications that interact with them
  • Testing, debugging, and refactoring both new and existing code bases
  • Performing code reviews and participating in pull-request reviews
  • Assisting in the extract, transform, load (ETL) process for new data
  • Deploying and maintaining web servers and database management systems

Essential qualifications

  • Undergraduate training in computer science, software engineering, or a related field
  • Experience writing and documenting production-ready code
  • Proficiency with git and the Linux command line
  • Ability to communicate in English clearly and accurately with people from various technical backgrounds

Other relevant skills/experience

  • Experience with R, SQL, and/or AWS
  • Technical expertise in web application development and/or interactive data visualization
  • Willingness to explore new programming paradigms and software libraries
